I thought the prayer of the Community reasonable, especially in the long day season, and I also considered the project advantageous to the Government, as a large saving would be effected by its measure in the preservation of the Streets of the City.

The amount will be provided in the Supplementary Estimates for the year, and I venture to ask Your Lordships' sanction of the arrangement.

It might be added that the subscribing parties have been required to contribute at least an equal amount to that paid out of general revenues. I support that in a place like Hong Kong, almost all the general revenue is itself raised worth adding in the law.
